Frequently Asked Questions
Online Fitness Classes & Coaching
What are the benefits of physical therapy for older adults?
Fitness coaching with a physical therapist can help you stay stronger, steadier, and more mobile as you age. It can reduce pain, improve balance, lower your risk of falls, and make everyday activities feel easier and more confident.Β
The good news is, you donβt necessarily need to start physical therapy in order to start seeing positive results. Thatβs why I offer virtual fitness coaching for seniors, so you can start easy exercises today right in your own home. No trips to the gym or expensive equipment required! While the exercises may seem simple at first, they compound to build lasting strength that will keep your body flexible and active in the years to come.
Whatβs the difference between virtual PT and an in-person clinic?
Youβll get the same professional guidance and customized planβwithout the commute, waiting room, or set appointment times.
Should I enroll in a course or program, or work with you 1:1?
The best path for you depends on your goals, needs, and how much personal guidance you want.Β
Our online courses and programs are a great choice if you like to work independently with a clear plan to follow.Β
1:1 coaching provides personalized support and guidance with frequent check-ins, custom adjustments, and accountability.Β
When we meet for our free consultation, Iβll help you determine the right choice for you. Schedule a virtual consultation here.
Do I need special equipment for virtual sessions?
No, you do not. Most of my clients begin with no equipment or simple items you already have at home, like a sturdy chair or countertop. If we want to add any other equipment, Iβll guide you toward affordable, space-friendly options. (I also have an Amazon storefront of my favorites that you can check out for ideas).Β

Plan to start with just your phone or your laptop for video calls and access to your program.
Β
How does virtual physical therapy work?
Virtual physical therapy combines online coaching calls with customized, video-guided exercise plan you can follow at your own pace. I adjust your program as needed to keep you progressing safely from home, and youβll have access to me through email or messaging between calls.
What if Iβm not tech-savvy?
No technical skills required! Weβll keep things as simple as possible, and Iβll walk you through exactly how to access your program and coaching calls. If you can check your email or click a link, youβre all set.
Do I need a doctorβs referral?
Not for Staal fitness coaching or programs. If you have any serious medical concerns, I may recommend checking in with your doctor to ensure all the exercises are safe for you to practice. I can let you know if your state has any exceptions.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. All Staal services are self-pay, which means we can focus on what works best for you without the limitations of insurance coverage. However, I can give you a receipt to submit for potential reimbursement.
How much does 1:1 coaching with you cost?
Because each program is customized to your unique goals, pricing varies based on the length of the program and how often we meet. Currently, pricing for 1:1 fitness coaching starts at $420.
In addition to 1:1 fitness coaching, I also offer affordable courses, free PDF resources, and training videos on social media. No matter your budget, I can help you find an option thatβs the perfect fit.Β
What types of issues do you help with?
I work with older adults who want to improve their strength, balance, mobility, and confidence. Common goals and conditions I help with include:
- Improving stability/balance and reducing fall risk
- Regaining strength after injury, surgery, or illness
- Hip, knee, shoulder, neck/back, and foot/ankle pain that limits daily movement
- Stiffness or decreased mobility
- Postural changes and core weakness
- Building confidence to stay active and independent
Are there things you donβt treat?
I donβt treat pelvic floor issues (such as incontinence or prolapse), or elbow, wrist, and hand conditions. I also donβt provide emergency or acute injury care, wound care, post-surgical rehab in the immediate recovery phase, or specialized neurological rehab for conditions like stroke, Parkinsonβs disease, or multiple sclerosis.Β
I also donβt do traditional telehealth sessions where we exercise together in real time. If I feel your needs are outside my scope, I can help you find the right provider.
How long are your programs?
1:1 coaching plans are available in 8, 12, or 16 week options.Β
My online courses will range from 4to 12 weeks, depending on your goals and needs.
